How does the treatment work ?

Excessive sweating is treated by administering an injection of the protein botulinum toxin to the overactive sweat glands, which are identified during an initial consultation. The protein acts by temporarily preventing the release of acetylcholine.

This is an organic chemical that functions as a neurotransmitter and is released by the nerve endings that send signals to the glands that enable them to sweat. The injections block this signal to stop the contraction of targeted glands reducing the amount of sweat produced.
